SEF Accomplishments

Sustainable Energy Fund has been successful in implementing  numerous clean, renewable and energy-efficient projects in communities throughout Pennsylvania, including:

Solar Scholars™ 2008: Dickinson College, in Carlisle, PA hosted the Solar Scholars™ Conference this July. Nearly 100 students and professors from 28 colleges participated in a memorable week of hands-on training in photovoltaic technology, and learned about related subjects in renewable energy. Schools now have the opportunity to apply for funds to help pay for their solar arrays. These funds are made possible by PPL Electric Utilities. Participating colleges will also develop educational curriculum which integrates renewable energy and sustainable practices on their campuses.

Shazaam Realty LLC: Sustainable Energy Fund (SEF ) helped Shazaam Realty by providing green building strategies and crucial funding needed to turn this commercial project into a sustainable design building.

Bear Creek Wind Farm (Pocono Region): With a substantial investment from SEF, Community Energy, Inc. has developed a 24-megawatt wind facility near Wilkes-Barre, PA that can supply enough clean, renewable energy to the mid-Atlantic utility grid to power 5,500 homes.

Petersburg Commons (Penn Township, Perry County): Financing from SEF enabled the construction of the state’s first “green” housing development for first-time homebuyers with moderate to low incomes. Designed for optimal energy efficiency and with environmentally friendly building materials, these townhouse units are 50 percent more energy efficient than conventional construction.

Londonderry School (Harrisburg, Dauphin County): Funded with a loan from SEF, this unique school offers a curriculum emphasizing environmental stewardship in a building constructed to meet national standards set by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

Solar Scholars™: SEF launched its Solar Scholars pilot program in 2006 where students from six Pennsylvania colleges and universities participated in this program that brings solar energy technology to PA campuses.

BioMass Solutions: SEF is helping to turn agricultural waste into energy throughout Pennsylvania.

Light-Emitting Diodes: Communities all over the state are turning to SEF to convert conventional traffic and pedestrian signals to energy-saving LED powered systems.
